BUILD A BED INITIATIVE

BUILDING TO MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE

A Bed for Every Child launched the Build A Bed Project to bring together sponsored teams of people to help meet the growing need for beds. A bed may not seem like the most pressing social issue facing kids growing up in poverty, yet thousands of children across the state are without a bed of their own. The reason is simply that their parents are unable to afford one.

A Bed for Every Child knows a bed alone is not going to end poverty, but we do know giving a child a good night’s sleep can help them at school. We also know that an education is the path way for a child to raise up and out of poverty as an adult. A Bed for Every Child wants to give every child one more tool in their tool box toward getting an education and that begins with a good night’s sleep on a bed of their own.

We also can tell you that everyone who has the chance to participate in a Build A Bed has a lot of fun and they walk away with a feeling of accomplishment knowing they have made a difference. Join us and become a sponsor of a Build A Bed and give a child the gift of a good night’s sleep!

ABOUT BUILD A BED

Build A Bed brings together teams of 3 to 4 people with limited to no carpentry skills to build twin beds. Teams work together over a 3-hour period to build, sand and paint a twin bed frame. Upon its completion A Bed for Every Child delivers not only the frame but also a new twin mattress.

Build A Bed has traveled to cities from Western Mass. to Cape Cod and can also be hosted at our warehouse in Lynn, Mass. It has taken place in conference rooms or ballrooms, parking lots, gyms or community halls. To date over 3,500 people have participated in making beds for children in need.

The day of the event A Bed for Every Child staff do all the heavy lifting – your team just needs to come prepared to build and have a great time. A Bed for Every Child supplies everything needed to build the beds; wood has been pre-drilled and marked and tools are made available. The instructions on how to build a bed are easy to follow and our staff are hands on throughout the project to assist and answer questions.

Faith Based Build A Bed

There are five things that a child needs to thrive: food, water, shelter, clothing and sleep. As a society, we have worked tirelessly to ensure children have access to the first four, but in regards to sleep, we have yet to reach the same level.

Youth Build A Bed

Although a bed is not the first thing we think of when discussing poverty, far too many children are growing up in a household that simply cannot afford a bed for their children, therefore these children are not able to obtain the good night’s sleep they need to get the education they deserve.
