HOUSING 101 TRAININGS
HOMELINK HOUSING WORKSHOPS
The Coalition knows that a major key to preventing homelessness or allowing families and individuals to escape homelessness and poverty is accessing affordable housing. Yet, there are very few places for people to turn where they can receive individualized assistance in applying for affordable housing.
In partnership with community health centers, non-profits and public schools, the Coalition through its HomeLink Initiative offers on-site Housing Workshops. The Workshops have been designed to first give participants a complete overview of the different types of affordable housing and how housing authorities set their levels of priorities. The workshops will also address obstacles that households encounter that could have their applications denied such as past rental history, credit issues, criminal record (CORI) issues and how they can be repaired.
After the workshop, households will work with a HomeLink advocate one on one to apply to the housing authorities that best fit their needs.
